Jessie is a Detroit-based fiber artist whose work is deeply rooted in Jewish culture and traditions. Raised in an Orthodox Jewish household, she became intimately familiar with its customs and practices. Over time, she has reconnected with her Jewish identity through an artistic lens, expanding beyond the Orthodox teachings of her upbringing. This journey has sparked a deep curiosity, leading her to explore Jewish practices, particularly Judaica and Talmudic studies. Themes of identity, heritage, and space are woven into her work through beading, quilting, weaving, and natural dyeing.
Jessie’s has ventured into creating Ketubahs, reimagining this sacred art form with innovative designs that offer a fresh perspective. This new practice has allowed her to reconnect with the Jewish community in meaningful ways. Her work bridges tradition and sustainability, honoring both her Orthodox roots and her commitment to eco-conscious, community-driven art-making.
As co-founder of Farm to Fabric, a cooperative dye and fiber garden in Detroit, Jessie fosters collaboration among local artists to grow sustainable materials. Through workshops, garden workdays, and community dye baths, Farm to Fabric provides a creative space where artists can craft art from start to finish.
